NEW: Ricky McCormick - New Update on Possible Characters in Handwritten Notes

I have been reading several blogs, newspaper articles, court case records, google map layouts of Missouri, medical terminology, etc. and I have been trying to crack the code of Ricky McCormick, as is the case for a lot of people in the world.  I am 100% baffled.  In my blog, I only want true input into ideas of breaking his code.  Please keep all postings to the topic of trying to solve Ricky's note and really put our thinking caps on.

I have found the hardest part of the puzzle is accurately deciphering his handwriting.  I have seen a lot of different variations on the Internet, and although many are similar to each other, none of them truly match letter for letter.  My opinions/insight into the note, are just my hunches based on my own eyesight and on reading numerous Internet reliable sources.  Here it goes:

I believe that all of the letters "S" in the note are really the number "5".  I saw in most blogs that all agree on page 2 that the numbers in the 3rd paragraph are "35" and "651".  I studied the 5 in these numbers and found them to be the same as what was written through out the letter.  Has anyone tried to replace all of the letters S with the number 5?

I also believe that on page 1 in the upper right hand corner, it reads:  (4(5M)    Any thoughts on this?

On the bottom of page 1, at first I thought it read (194 WLD'S NCBE).  Upon looking at the letters with a magnifying glass, it looks like the W is actually the number 1 and an N.  I noticed that some of the other Ws look like 1N as well.  (1941N LD'5 NCBE).

My take on the letter combination (TRFXL) is traffic circle.

When I studied some of the facts posted on the Web, I found the following information:

WHO IS RICKY C. McCORMICK?
The facts I have found out so far are as follows:
Name:  Ricky C. McCormick - born June, 14, 1958.  died sometime between 6/25-6/28/99.  Body found 6/30/99.  FBI state that his 2 notes were written upto 3 days before his body was found.   (note - there is another Ricky McCormick who was born on 2/12/1963 and died on 3/13/1999, be careful not to mix up these two individuals when you are on a fact-finding mission.).  The FBI stated that Ricky had chronic lung & heart problems and that he was a HS drop out.  Please, for the sake of my blog, do not assume that he is retarded or not of high intellect just because he dropped out of school and might have been hanging with a not so wonderful crowd.  I know a lot of kids who have dropped out for reasons such as - fighting in school, not interested in doing school work, etc., but they are extremely smart and could have continued their education had they made better choices in their life.  Since I don't know anything personally about this young man, I don't want to assume he had a low intellect.  The FBI also stated that he was street smart.  I do not know what types of jobs Ricky held in his lifetime, but the FBI indicated that at the time of his death, he was unemployed and on disability.  On 6/25/99, Ricky went to a dr. appt to get medication at Forest Park Hospital, 6150 Oatland Ave., St. Louis, MO 63137  Ph:  314-768-3000.  I don't believe that Ricky was a huge drug dealer (or if he was - he was clever & didn't get caught).  I haven't found any court records showing any arrests for drug and/or alcohol usage.  The FBI also indicated that Ricky was not driving a car, so perhaps some of the theories of being expert on bus, metro train, walking & catching a ride with family and friends might be quite accurate.  A few days before Ricky was found dead, he was evicted from his home located at 1400 Chouteau Ave., St. Louis.  He apparently lived there with a female, Sandra Jones (her name appears as co-defendant on the circuit court case).  I do not have any information of where he was living/staying from 6/21/1999 til 6/30/1999.  Not having that small piece of info makes it hard to figure out how/why his body was found where it was.

I WISH THE FBI WOULD:
a)  Upload to the Internet a copy of the Social Security Disability papers Ricky had to have filled out.  Even though they are not encrypted, they would give a better sample of his letters & numbers handwriting.
b)  What were some of the types of jobs Ricky has held in the past?
c)  Upload a copy of one of his court depositions to show how he answers questions and his speech patterns/dialect/word usage.

RICKY'S COURT CASES in Missouri Circuit Courts:
07/08/1987:  (Case #22877-02287)  Young -v- McCormick.  This was apparently some type of Domestic Relations case regarding child
support.  The plaintiff was Vickie Young.

11/19/1992:  (Case #22921-03404)  (State -v- McCormick.  (Criminal/Infract).  This case went before a Grand Jury Indictment for two charges:  CT-01, Rape-Weapon or Injury - prior offender child under 14  and CT-02, Sex Assault (ASLT) - 1st degree - prior offender.  This case was combined with the case below (1/4/93 - Case #22921-03404-01).  There was a lot of activity in this case from Jan 21, 1993 through his sentencing on 10/8/93.  He tried to get a psychiatric motion filed, but it was denied in Feb '93.  On Sept. 1, 1993, Ricky plead guilty (PSI Ordered) and on 10/8/93, he was sentenced to 3 years, court costs of $46.00 and jail time allowed.  Some websites stated that he only served 11 mos of this sentence, but I have not been able to find that documentation any where.  This case shows that Ricky's address was:  2852A Pennsylvania Ave., St. Louis, MO.

01/04/1993:  (Case #22921-03404-01)  State -v- McCormick.  (Criminal/Infract).  This was a case combined with the above mentioned case of 11/19/92.  (See all notes above regarding Case #22921-03404).  This case shows that Ricky's address was:  2852A Pennsylvania Ave., St. Louis, MO.

09/15/1994:  (Case #35R03940198)  State -v- McCormick.  (Criminal/Infract.)  This was a case regarding passing a bad check
(24.035/29.15).  The judgment/fines were as follows:  $15.00, $5.00, $65.45 = $85.45      He satisfied this judgment.

04/14/1999:  (Case #22990-04198)  St. Louis Housing -v- Jones, et al  (AC Rent & Possession)  This was a case where apparently Ricky lived with a woman named Sandra Jones and they were being evicted.  The address listed in the court record states they lived at 1400 Chouteau Ave., St. Louis, MO 63103.  The plaintiff's atty was Frederick Carl Toelle located at 4100 Lindell Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63108.  Tons of activity happened in this case on the following dates:  4/15/99, 4/16/99, 4/28/99, 5/6/99, 5/14/99, 5/19/99, 5/14/99, 6/16/99, 6/21/99 and lastly 6/24/99.  The court record stated Jones & McCormick had consent judgments off record for $905.02.  The case was electronically disposed on 5/19/99.  A check in the amount of $20.75 was issued to the Housing Authority on 5/24.  It appears that on 6/21/99 both Sandra Jones and Ricky were evicted from their residence with all final paperwork showing eviction complete and property returned to Housing on 6/24/99.  I have not been able to find any documents/information that show where Ricky lived after this 6/21/99 eviction.  It's sad that just a few days later he is found dead.

DECIPHER INTERESTING THOUGHTS:

99-84-82.  (Several ideas on this number sequence):
1)  When I typed this into google as an IP Address search, it came up with several items on a page.  One of interest was a website I did NOT click on (too afraid it could be viral).  Website: dnstree.com    worldporn.ru.sxybody.com    It had in the descriptive clip that it was pretty much for kinky sex, porn, etc.  Don't know if Ricky was into that kind of stuff, but I found the IP interesting.
2)  When I typed in just 998482, it came up with this is a color hex chart for RGB color chart & HSL color chart.
3)  This combination of numbers also appeared as PMID # for a hypertension medication.  http://www.ncbi.nlm.gov/pubmed998482
4)  99.84.5 - this showed up as the Missouri Law statues for Municipal Housing Chapter 99.
5)  99.84.8 appeared as an ICD Code for either a Veneral Disease, Lesion(s) nontraumatic, or Isolation due to Infection.
    [I found it interesting that in Ricky's last week of life he went to a doctor and was also experiencing Housing problems.  Two of the
above codes show up for medical and housing reasons - thought to ponder].

         8.)  Rap star Sean "Puffy" Combs was charged w/ weapon possession in a nighclub in NY.

I have read about all kinds of theories for the notes contents from grocery list, poem, song lyrics, to do list, directions, car parts, medical records/history, medical lab reports, housing/rental opportunities, buying/selling cars (SE  LX, etc.), drugs, gambling, computer programming codes, etc.  I am hoping that each person reading my blog will continue to think of ideas that might make this case of the scrambled notes get solved.

The handwriting on the notes is extremely hard to read.  I tried to solve it by what was posted on the Internet, but had no luck.  I then blew up the notes a little larger on my computer, I used a magnifying glass and I noticed that some of the letters appeared smeared, almost as if a little moisture had made some of the ink run - - using a magnifying glass, letters I thought were something else, appeared as a new letter to me.  Try to look at each letter totally independent of the other characters around it.  Decipher - letter by letter.

Below is my newest interpretation of the characters in the notes.  I changed all the S's to 5's.  I changed some of the W's to 1n.  I believe that all N's mean "and" or is used as an ampersand.  I believe that the small t is really a + sign and means "and".  I studied each character individually and regardless of what letter patterns came before it, I tried to write down what I saw.  Have fun with this -- it does have a lot of numbers now -- maybe someone can make sence of this jumbled mess : )  Good Luck  and keep thinking (simple thoughts, hard thoughts and everything in between).

MY NEWEST INTERPRETATION OF THE INDIVIDUAL CHARACTERS IN LETTERS 1 and 2:
 (are they right??? who knows!!!!!!)
PAGE 1:  (and yes, the ? in the text I believe are question marks)  I took out the spacing, thinking maybe something would stand out better or a pattern may appear):

Well, that's about it for this posting.  I will keep trying til this gets solved : )  Hope you have a blessed day - Puzzled  : )

P.S.:

I kept looking at the type written coded message and noticed a lot of letters also used in Roman numerals.  Has anyone tried to see if anything changes when these letters are transferred to Roman numbers???    I even typed the message backwards to see if anything popped.  Just more thoughts to ponder ----

I =1
V=5
X=10
V=50
XL=40
LV=60
XC=90
C=100
D=500
DI=501
DL=550
CM=900
M=1000
MD=1500

They could be used for dollar amounts, mileage, betting, actually, with this young man, the sky is the limit on what his writings could be about -- my goal with my Blog is to have a place to put my thoughts on this encrypted note -- hoping that some random thought in my head might transcend a brilliant idea in your head you possibly hadn't considered before -- and solve this case!  Thanks : )

  2. On the 1st page "RCBRNSE" appears a couple times. I'm left to believe that 'E' is used throughout as a "space". I did some research and "RC Barns" is a barn manufacturing company outside of St. Louis.

  3. Hi,

    I have studied the letters and I feel there are various possibilities in terms of encryption methodology used in this case. This could range from simple letter substitution (doubtful though, it would have been cracked by now) to a much more complex code which would require a key to decode. However taking into account the fact that this was probably written in a hurry and maybe while travelling (accounting for the poor quality of the writing)it could very well be a system of word abbreviation used which may not be logically decipherable to anyone other that the author.

    Eg: I have found that quite often when I need to note something down in a hurry (before it disappears from my field of vision, or before I forget it), I tend to use a type of short form or abbreviation for the words, which I am later able to recall easily because I still have the memory of the event(s) witnessed or the circumstances under which I made the notes which helps me easily understand what I wrote. However the notes would be indecipherable to a 3rd person as they do not have the benefit of the event memory to help put the words together. This code could be of a similar kind, where Ricky noted down something he had to remember (either a description of a series of events or people or things he was over hearing)but he noted it down using a random system of abbreviation which he would be able to decipher later when coupled with the memory of what he saw/heard/knew.

    1. Hello from Spain

      + You have reason is this. The different writing between the notes also explains the death of Mccormick, the second note is a rough draft and the first note is a final text.

      And this is not an accident. It is necessary.

      Soon I will explain this sad story step by step.

      JSP.

    2. First Step: Who? and Where?

      A signature (from Latin: signare, "to sign") is a handwritten (and often stylized) depiction of someone's name, nickname, or even a simple "X" or other mark that a person writes on documents as a proof of identity and intent. The writer of a signature is a signatory or signer. Similar to a handwritten signature, a signature work describes the work as readily identifying its creator.

      The signature usually appears at the end of any legal document

      Then see the last line and word of note 2, is something like this:
      "XORLX" = " Mcorm(i)Ck"

      Explanation:
      X = C, MC and CK. There is the part that is repeated, it is a typically shorthand solution. It reminded me that those who can not write signed with an X or something.
      O = O
      R = R
      L = M + Code Caesar B or +1 move.
      (I) this vowel is added. The vowels are deleted except those necessary to understand the message (a shorthand solution).
      X = C, MC and CK. + Again.

      Remember on legal documents, an illiterate signatory can make a "mark" often an "X" but occasionally a personalized symbol.

      To be continued.

    3. JSP, I was reading your posts on riverfronttimes and had to ask some questions.
      I've been reading this, apparently a year late, however I have to interject. If the above story is to be believed, I wonder how they were able to identify him using fingerprints? I suppose it is possible they were still obtainable yet?

      *"Although it had been just three days since he disappeared, the flesh on his outstretched hands was already rotted to the point that his fingertips, just below the top knuckles, had fallen off and lay next to him in the weeds."

      This also begs the question why his fingertips were like this. Yes, it was June and hot. My experience is that the body would bloat.

      *If a medical examiner cannot determine the cause of death, then why is the FBI saying he was clearly murdered?

    4. He had other things in his pockets they gave to his parents I am sure they have his handwriting sample, but it only took me one look to A. know it's not him, and B. what the person who wrote and killed him does. I know what all that crap means and none of it is a spacer. It's also not a cipher. A quick read elsewhere discloses another crime within this one. As in it is separate but uses this one.

  8. Did anyone notice that the word NCBE occurs in every single sentence (page 1) except first line ,enclosed in brackets.

    (TFXL TEXL NCBE)
    (NOPFSE NLSRENCBE)
    etc.
    At the end of each sentence sometimes with a space other times joined toother letters.

  11. I'm not sure if anyone is still active on this thread but i figure I may as well offer my personal thoughts as they may help someone or allow them to help me get further. Upon closely examining this for several hours I have come to the following conclusions.
    The sheer amount of repeating segments and sections of letters within this , to me at least, screams that this is a VERY sophisticated code written by someone with mind boggling intellect, and most likely not Ricky himself. For starters I notice that E appears to absolutely never begin at the start of a line, but almost always at the end and occurs more frequently than pretty much all other letters within the code. It is now my belief that is is used to represent spacer, i.e. the end of a word. Going from there I notice many segments that repeat throughout the code. Examples,with 3 letters are PRS, NCB, and WLD. LD appears very frequently as well, with other numbers besides W preceding it. I'm beginning to thing these recurring letters are most likely common Prefixes and suffixes, or common groupings of letters found within the English language. I personally believe the best chance to crack this lies within the letters PRS. On the second line of the page titled P1 (corner) NPRSE appears as the third word or letter group, then again as the fifth. then the very beginning of the second line begins with just PRSE. So if E is a spacer, then that would mean the third and fifth words of the second line on page 1 are
    1. A four letter word repeating in the sentence,
    2. Likely a four letter word that ends with something that is ALSO a common 3 letter word, often used to begin a sentence, since the next line BEGINS with the same three characters those two words end with.
    If we can just figure out what that 3 letter word is, it may help us uncover the key for determining the last 3 letters of every word in the cipher. Any thoughts or am I just stupid? XD

  14. Ugh trust me I'm trying... I just have little free time with work xD. So far I have ruled out the words and, are, and act. In fact I don't think the three letter word can start with A because it puts a Q as the second letter of TFRN, which is the beginning of the second line (I always begin trying to crack from the second line of P1) More food for thought though.... J and U NEVER appear to show up in the cipher..... perhaps these are the equivalent to the letters Z and Q? as I feel those are the least common letters in the English language and may not even appear anywhere in the message. Then there are the numbers on page 1 near the bottom, 71 74 75... These are all major highways that run through Ohio. They are always followed by NCBE so maybe we could try putting in HWY (abbreviation for highway) and crack? haven't tried that one yet though it's a long shot.They could also be 71 GRS (Grams, ricky was a drug runner) or KGS (kilograms) There's also the (quite disheartening) chance that these groups of letters actually represent 1 letter, which would make the note much shorter than it appears and would completely destroy all of my work so far if true. :(

  15. More than anything I was hoping to find a forum of professional code crackers I could find information or obtain ideas from, but i'm not sure if there is one. Hell just a forum of people just trying to solve this cipher may help

    This is only some of the writing...there is no killer to find in these notes, and it’s not really any kind of code. It’s just abbreviations to keep track of when to take medicine, and how it’s been working...and I’m pretty sure the note was only found by him, and he put it in his pocket because he thought it was interesting (apparently so does the rest of the world lol)...but it wasn’t written by him. Somewhere, there is (or was) a full notebook with similar writing in it, with scratched out and rewritten letters/etc (perfectionist, but kept messing up)...but hey, if anyone figures out how/where he got the note from, maybe they’ll figure out who stole my little festiva back then, and which chop shop they took it to...whoever has my little palm sized Buddha figurine made of pure jade (which was also in the car); probably has that answer, along with many other answers. I have found all of these theories I’ve been reading; pretty interesting though.
